Hi! I’m Raul Ciceu, a 35 YO artist from Baia Mare, Romania. A graduate of the Arts Highschool and a full on artist that finished The University of Art and Design in Bucharest. Right now I’m a Senior Art Director.
You're on quite the artistic journey, having worked as an art director, letterer and creating your own art at the same time. Which of the these you enjoy most, and why?
Definetly art! The reasons are clear and simple. I express myself easier and more honest without hiting any bumps or external factors in the creating process. To create is pleasurable. A journey to the unkown without ever wanting to come back. But when the time is due, you can’t wait to come back home and show your close ones where you’ve been. That’s why every piece has it’s own journey. Advertising is also intriguing and full of challenges that teach you lots, if you come out as a winner.
One of your favorite projects you've ever worked on.
It’s hard to pinpoint just one. There are lots and lots of pieces I did not even started and are already done in my head. 99% of them are my favourites.
What inspires you to create?
Wrecked, abandoned and wild places. The silence that surounds them helps me open the gates of my thoughts. The city just mutes my brain and does not help me be myself. But even in those moments, I find the key and open the doors when I remind myself of those places.
What makes an artist/artwork authentic, how do you see this?
The authenticity of art is strongly bound to the author, ideea and location. These elements guide the piece into becoming original and not just a copy. Unfortunately, nowadays it’s getting harder and harder to mix all the ingredients together.
How would you describe your artistic style?
I evolved! I’ve experienced all styles and techniques. But time and life guided me towards a minimalistic style. Simple, emotional that resonates with with who I am right now.
What are your ambitions as a digital artist from here on?
As any person, I aim high. The most occuring purpose is to become a full time artist.
What is coming up next for you?
A series of interesting pieces, I might say. In 2017 I took an, let’s say legally grey, trip to Pripyat where I was welcomed by a totally different world. After I came back, the drawings just poured out of me, but somehow I feel that there’s still more to come out. But untill those are done, I’m proud to show you a part of my journey. “A long time shall pass untill the wind and rain will eat us and lay us down on the earth. Rest is far away and untill then, we watch.“
Any message you'd like to share with the world, that you haven't expressed through your art?
Keep on going!
